Fender Telecaster
Pickguards
For Vintage Models

1.
Fender Telecaster
NEW '52 style black
single-ply
"BAKELITE"* pickguard, RIGHT HANDED as found on NEW USA vintage reissue
models and even Custom Shop goodies like my 'new' Relic Nocaster. Old
style
stingy five hole pattern guarantees upward warp on some guitars,
slightly
rounded edges, they even leave some buffing compound residue here and
there.
These pickguards usually require some minor to moderate filin' and
sandin'
to fit many Teles, we warn ya'. Lately they've been shipping 'em
already
lacquered 'n buffed like the old ones but they ain't putting 'em
up on a quart can like Tadeo Gomez did in the early '50s. You can see
the
over spray on the back side. Talk about authentic! No, they're
not
perfect (neither are the highly inconsistent originals...), but these
are
the best repros currently available and among the best I've ever seen.
Play 'em a bit, wear through the lacquer and you'll swear you'll
lookin'
at the real thing. GENUINE FENDER. $39.99.*
"BAKELITE" is the Union
Carbide
trademarked name for a phenolic "Resinoid varnish" impregnated paper
fiber
composite material, an early (and CHEAP...) form of plastic. This
material
was commonly used in the old days to make telephones, radio cases,
bowling
balls and many other consumer and industrial items, including guitar
pickguards.
Other manufacturers offered similar materials under other trade names.
"Laminated products are fabricated from superimposed layers of paper,
canvas,
cotton duck, or asbestos fabric impregnated with BAKELITE resinoid
varnishes
and hardened by heat and pressure. Characterized by unusual strength
resiliency
and toughness. BAKELITE laminates possess high dielectric strength; are
exceptionally resistant to heat, water, oil and most chemicals. Will
not
warp nor deteriorate with age. Can be machined, punched and polished.
Produced
in variety of sheets, tubes and rods. Extensively employed for radio
and
electrical insulation, instrument panels, etc." This quote reprinted
from
the 1941 Electrical Buyers Reference.
2. Fender
Telecaster NEW '52 style single-ply
"BAKELITE" pickguard, LEFT HANDED! WOW! Same as #1 described above but
for LEFTY guitars. BACK IN STOCK TODAY FOR IMMEDIATE SHIPMENT! GENUINE

white vinyl pickguard, five screw holes. RIGHT HANDED VERSION. GENUINE
FENDER. $29.99.
4. FENDER '62 Telecaster Mint Green three-ply pickguard, eight
screw holes. NO holes for mounting neck pickup. There is a period
correct scoop in the truss rod adjustment/neck pocket area. Mint green
looks like the aged white nitrocellulose plastic found on late '50s-mid
'60s Fender Fine Electric Instruments. Looks great on Custom Color
Teles! $29.99.

Fender Telecaster
Pickup Selector Switches And
Mounting
Screws
1.
Fender Tele NEW
three-way pickup selector
switch, newer style with full round brown phenolic wafer, manufactured
by Oak. Not as cool looking as the old style 1452 switches
described below but a serviceable
choice nonetheless. As found on Fender USA Vintage series instruments.
NEW! GENUINE FENDER. EACH
$11.99.

2. Fender CRL
1452
NEW three way pickup
selector switch, old style ('60s) construction but Fiberglas (NOT
original
brown phenolic...) body, coil spring action like the originals. As many
vintage Fender aficionados know, the CRL 1452 was the three-way switch
used on Teles, Strats, steel guitars, etc. from the late '40s through
the
'90s. The very early version of this switch was larger and a bit more
'rustic'
in build (see picture below...) but the electrical connections are the
same. Yes, they're stamped "MADE IN USA". We include two '52
style nickel plated slotted
round head
mounting screws. NEW. GENUINE FENDER.
EACH $14.98.

3.
Fender Tele
four-way pickup selector switch,
allows series connected lead and rhythm pickup resulting in high output
and rich, fat tone. Looks basically like a modern USA Oak brand Tele
switch but with an
extra
stop (four, instead of three..) and lugs (five on each side instead of
four...). Yes, it's an exact mechanical replacement for all old
and modern USA Tele switches. This switch works best if your
pickups
are reverse wind/reverse polarity (e.g. Texas Special pickup set, also
select Lindy Fralin Tele pickup sets...). HELPFUL HINT: If you're using
a Tele
rhythm pickup with a traditional metal cover it's helpful (but not
absolutely
necessary...) to run a separate (preferably yellow...as found on the
Fender
Texas Special rhythm pickup) cloth covered grounding wire to the back
of
one of the pots where your other ground connections meet, this will
eliminate
that 'click' if your strings should hit the cover. This four way switch
sounds great! All Tele players should give this a try. I installed one
of these in my 'Relic NoCaster'; now I'm hooked. Includes E-Z wiring
pictorial,
chrome mounting screws and even a black barrel switch tip. NEW! GENUINE
FENDER. EACH $15.99.
4. Fender Tele '52 vintage
style slotted
round
head screws for pickup selector switch, nickel plated. NEW. GENUINE
FENDER.
EACH $1.
NEW
Fender
Telecaster
Pickup Selector Switch Tips
1. Fender
Original
'Barrel' Switch Tips
for Telecasters, as found on the Fender USA '52 Telecaster reissue and
many Custom Shop Teles. These look somewhat
like
the old Dakaware tips except the top is domed instead of rimmed. Fit
older
CRL 1452 and modern USA Tele switches EXACTLY. PAIR
FOR
$4.99.
2. Fender
Original
Top Hat Switch Tips for
Telecasters,
"Fits: U.S. and Mexican Teles" they say. NEW GENUINE FENDER PART.
PAIR FOR $4.99.
3. Fender
Telecaster Custom black toggle switch
tip. '70s NEW OLD STOCK GENUINE FENDER Part Number 013338000. Also
works
great on old Gibson SGs, Les Pauls, etc. These fit those guitars
EXACTLY. EACH $1.99.
4. Fender Top Hat Telecaster
Switch
Tip for import Telecasters. Exactly
like the Top Hat switch tips listed about but molded to fit the
skinnier
handle on imported pickup selector switches. If you've got a Fender
from
Japan, China, etc. this is the correct part. EACH $4.
5. Fender Barrel Telecaster
Switch
Tip for import Telecasters. Exactly
like the new Fender barrel switch tips listed above but molded to fit
imported
pickup selector switches. EACH $4.
OLD
Fender Telecaster Pickup Selector
Switch Tips
1.
Early '50s
Telecaster
switch tips. Genuine '50s black
Bakelite round 'barrel' type with rim on top, as found on Broadcaster,
'NoCaster', early '50s Telecaster, Esquire, various steel git-tars,
etc.
up to around '55 or so. The most commonly seen examples have "DAKA-WARE
CHICAGO" with patent numbers molded into the bottom edge. The very
first
version
had only belt sander marks on the bottom, slightly later versions were
stamped only "PAT. PEND."; all types are now difficult to find. GENUINE
OLD, USED PARTS; NOT REISSUES. THE REAL THING! JUST
IN! TWO EARLY '50s "PAT. PEND." TIPS! ON MOST OF THESE EITHER JUST
"PAT." or "PEND." is clearly visable. All are in beautifully grungy
good used condition. You can clean 'em up if you want to or just use
'em 'as is'. All have been checked for fit on an early '50s CRL switch.
I haven't seen any tips this early in many years. EACH $39.
2. Mid '50s Telecaster 'top
hat' switch tip. Black phenolic plastic. "DAKA-WARE CHICAGO" with
patent numbers
molded into the bottom edge. The perfect switch tip for your mid
'50s-mid '60s Telecaster or Esquire. EACH
$24.99.
Note: These old parts go in and out of stock as we find them....or
don't find them..

violin/wah-wah
effects, etc., same pots found on USA vintage reissues, we include
premium
mounting hardware. Fender includes a .1
tone
circuit capacitor with each pot but my favorite values are
.039/.047/.05;
ANY of the signal capacitors we offer (Angela Tin Foil, Angela Paper In
Oil, N.O.S., CDE Black Cat, Orange Drop 716P etc.) will work just fine. EACH $6.99.

2. Fender 500K
pots for humbucker equipped
Teles,

included.
Also a good choice for Rickenbacker guitars. EACH $6.99.

4. Angela Hex
Nuts for
1/4" input jacks and

Super Reverb, you name it. ONE DOZEN FOR $4.98.
5. Angela Lock Washers
for pots and jacks, internal
toothed type, exact same size as found on older Fender guitars and
amps,
NICKEL plated steel. Essential part for decent repair work; these keep
those
pots
and jacks from 'wind milling'. ONE
DOZEN FOR $3.98.
6.
Angela Beauty Washers for pots, jacks etc. Nickel plated steel. These
are the flat
washers that go under
the
jack and pot fastening nuts on older Fender guitars and amps. These
washers
prevent
the hex nuts from chewing up the face of your pickguard or face plate.
No restoration workshop is complete without these cool parts.
These are much nicer than the beauty washers Switchcraft is currently
shipping
with
jacks. ONE DOZEN FOR $3.98.
Fender
Telecaster Input Jack
Cups And Associated Parts

1.
Fender Tele
vintage '50s style chrome plated
steel input jack cup with 'keeper', new GENUINE FENDER parts. Most
older Fender Teles had chrome plated input jack cups. Stewart
Macdonald of Ohio has a specialized tool for installing these; you
might want to check 'em out if you do this sort of installation
regularly or you just dig obscure special purpose luthiers tools?
GENUINE
FENDER. $8.99.
2. Fender Tele vintage style nickel
plated steel input
jack cup with 'keeper', new GENUINE FENDER parts. This nickel finish
input jack cup is currently found on the USA Vintage Series '52 reissue
Telecaster and many USA Custom Shop Teles. The difference between
nickel and chrome is subtle; nickel has a warm yellowish vintage look,
chrome has a harder bluish coloration. Includes mounting nut and lock
washer. Fender currently ships these in attractive packaging. $9.99.
2. Fender Tele vintage '50s style GOLD
plated
steel input jack cup with 'keeper'. Don't need a gold part? Scrub off
the
gold plating with 0000 steel wool and you'll find nickel underneath.

Fender
Telecaster Pickup Parts
1. Fender
Tele bridge
pickup tension springs, cone
shaped. Some think these sound better than the rubber tubing used on
most
new Teles for pickup 'lift'. GENUINE FENDER. SET OF THREE
$5.
2. Fender
Tele bridge
pickup mounting screws,
'52 style ROUND slotted head, nickel plated steel. GENUINE FENDER. EACH $1, TWELVE FOR $8.

ROUND phillips head, nickel plated steel. GENUINE FENDER. EACH $1.

philips head, CHROME plated steel. As used on American Series
Telecasters Stratocasters for pickup and pickup selector switch
mounting. Genuine Fender. EACH $1.
5.
Fender Tele lead
pickup mounting screws,
ROUND philips
head, GOLD PLATED. As used on USA Vintage Series '60s style Teles with
gold plated parts for bridge pickup and pickup selector switch
mounting. Also used for bridge pickup and pickup selector switch
mounting on fancy modern USA Teles and for pickup and pickup selector
switch mounting on American Series Strats with gold plated parts.
GENUINE FENDER. EACH
$1.99.
6. Fender
Tele
copper clad steel bottom plate
for lead pickups, finds older instruments exactly, genuine Fender USA
part.
This plate is crucial to the vintage Tele sound; being steel, and due
to
the close proximity to the iron alloy pole pieces, it intensifies and
broadens
the magnetic field around the strings. Additionally, the plate provides
shielding against hum (as does the rather impractical "ashtray" bridge
cover...). The thin copper coating was applied to the steel plate make
ground connection soldering easier. GENUINE FENDER. EACH $14.99.
7. Fender
Tele
rhythm pickup covers, chrome
plated
brass, as found on USA '52 vintage reissue, new part. GENUINE FENDER.
EACH $16.99.

'52 style with round slotted head, nickel plated steel, hard to find,
GENUINE
FENDER. EACH $1.
10.
Fender Tele
rhythm pickup mounting screws,
'60s style with round philips head, nickel plated steel. GENUINE
FENDER.
EACH $1.
Fender Telecaster Tone Capacitors

1. Angela Tin
Foil Signal Capacitor,
.047/630VDC,
my pick for the best sounding, affordable tone circuit capacitor for
Teles.
Made in France by SCR for Angela Instruments. EACH $7. ALSO
SEE OUR ANGELA PAPER IN OIL SIGNAL CAPACITOR PAGES FOR SOME OTHER GREAT
TONE CAPS (IF YOU'VE GOT MONEY TO BURN AND THE ROOM TO SPARE...). Please
note that .047
replaces
the 'obsolete' ".05" value used in the '50s; given the typical
tolerance
variation in signal capacitors, .047 and ".05" are virtually the same
anyway.

Fender
Telecaster Pickups!
1. Fender
Original Vintage Telecaster Pickups. Tons of vintage Tele
tone! Made with the same materials and specifications of an early
1950's Telecaster pickup, the Original Vintage Telecaster pickups speak
with extremely accurate vintage Tele twang. These pickups are
constructed with 'level pole piece' Alnico 3 magnets, enamel coated
magnet wire, black fiber bobbins and cloth covered lead wires. The
bridge pickup sports the traditional copper clad steel base plate for
that extra midrange punch and waxed black cloth string around the coil,
and 'vintage correct' black and yellow cloth covered leads. The neck
pickup features that distinctive chrome plated brass cover. Country?
Rockabilly? Rock? Whatever style of music you play, if you have a
Telecaster and want the traditional sound of Tele's from the '50s and
early '60s these are the ones for you. If you're confused about all of
the Tele pickup choices we offer, here's a good 'home base' from which
to begin your sonic experimentation. OEM on USA Vintage Telecasters.
Bridge pickup DC resistance approx. 7.2K, inductance 3.27 henries. Neck
pickup approx. 7.7K, inductance 2.45 henries. Both bridge and neck
pickups have the same magnetic polarity and are wound in the same
direction (counterclockwise...). Mounting hardware is included. $119.99.
2. Custom Shop '51 NoCaster Telecaster Pickup Set. Designed to sound
just like the originals, the Fender NoCaster pickups are true to their
heritage. The lead pickup features flush mounted Alnico 3 magnets,
enamel coated magnet wire and a zinc shielding plate recreating the
'real deal' with great Tele twang and a smooth midrange that only the
famous Fender Custom Shop can reproduce. The neck pickup is the perfect
companion to the NoCaster bridge pickup with it's CHROME plated cover
and classic warmth. OEM on Custom Shop NoCasters and Telecasters.
Bridge pickup DC resistance 7.3K, inductance 3.28 henries. The dozens
of NoCaster neck pickups I've personally measured over the past couple
of years typically measure in the low to mid 7K range. The bridge and
neck pickup are in the same D.C. resistance range; they balance very
nicely. These pickups have a reverse wound/reverse magnetic polarity
relationship so they're somewhat hum-cancelling when combined in
parallel in the classic middle position. This also makes 'em a good
choice for that cool Fender four-way pickup selector switch. $124.99.
3. Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Telecaster Pickups. Here's
something for you aggressive Telecaster players. These over wound Tele
pickups are constructed with alnico (stands for ALUMINUM, NICKEL and
COBALT...) 5 magnets and enamel coated magnet wire. The bridge pickup
features height staggered magnets, black fiber bobbin with black waxed
cloth string wrapping, copper clad steel bottom plate for increased
output, presence and midrange and black and yellow cloth covered lead
wires. The neck pickup has a traditional chrome plated brass cover and
black and white cloth covered leads. Razor sharp attack and higher
output make characterize the sound of these Tele pickups, perfect for
advanced slide playing, especially with effects. Born in the Custom
Shop and used on many custom-made Teles. OEM on the James Burton
Standard, Merle Haggard Tribute and American Classic Telecasters.
Bridge pickup DC resistance approx. 10.5K, inductance 3.95 henries.
Neck pickup approx. 9.5K, inductance 3.3 henries. Complete with
mounting hardware. Having a reverse wind/reverse magnetic polarity
relationship, these pickups work great as a set with a Fender four-way
switch for series and parallel tones! $124.99.
Building
A Tele? Here's A Tele
Parts Checklist!
1. Body and
neck.
My advice is to stick with
Fender timber if you can find it but there's a whole bunch of good
builders out there
offering
a variety of interesting high quality designs. As a general rule,
relatively
light weight bodies, preferably ash or alder, sound better. Light
mahogany,
koa, cedar, spruce and even pine are also interesting tonal choices.
The
whole guitar should weigh around seven pounds or less if you want a
resonant
sound. Seriously heavy Teles (e.g. ten pounds...) sound brittle and
nasty
to me but some heavy rock players and even country pickers love 'em.
Highly
figured necks look cool but are more prone to warpage than plainer
wood.
IMPORTANT: buy both the neck and body from the same source if you want
to end up with a guitar that you can actually play. If you're not an
ace
at wood finishing go for prefinished stuff with a THIN real
nitrocellulose
lacquer finish.
2. Tuning
machines.
For a traditional sound and
feel my pick would be Fender Kluson style tuners. These are much
smoother and more durable than the original Klusons. If you use
Schallers
or other relatively heavy tuners the balance of the guitar may not be
to
your liking. Diecast tuners also tend to take some of the 'sparkle' out
of the tone.
3. String
guide/"tree" for the headstock. '50s
style 'button' string guide or '60s style 'butterfly' types both work
fine.
Some of the 'low friction' string guides I've tried over the years tend
to deaden the tone.
4. String
nut.
Fender plastic 'bone' is the best
choice for a traditional tone and feel. If you can get a luthier to
make
you a string nut from HARD bone or ivory, so much the better. Have the
nut slots expertly filed so that there's sufficient relief angle for a
clean sound. Also make sure that there's no excess nut material above
the tops of the strings; this is almost always overlooked.
5.
Pickguard. This
choice influences the tone
more than you might think. If you're building a '50s style Tele stick
with
Bakelite. A rosewood neck Tele seems to be more agreeable to wacky
pickguard
choices like pearloid, tortoise, aluminum, etc.
6. Pickguard
screws. Slotted head nickel plated
wood screws are cool for '50s style guitars, phillips head nickel
plated
for '60s style. These same screws hold the control plate down to the
body.
7. Bridge. A
three
saddle bridge with brass
saddles
is my first choice for a classic sound. You can usually intonate these
'close enough for rock 'n roll' but every time you change strings
you'll
have to do it again. There are some 'after market' (e.g. Wilkinson)
non-Fender brass
bridge
assemblies with split/dual intonation adjustments for each saddle so
you
may want to check those out. If you bend strings like a madman, '60s
style
threaded saddles are a good choice but the sound seems to
be more appropriate to a rosewood fingerboard Tele. The Fender six
saddle
Tele bridge works great but sustain suffers somewhat. If you want a
heavy
sound from a humbucker equipped Tele, try to find one of those old
Schecter
or Mighty Mite brass bridge assemblies; they kick ass! Traditional Tele
bridges mount to the body with FOUR screws, slotted head types for '50s
guitar, phillips head for '60s guitars. My advice is to buy some extra
bridge/body screws if you're building a 'project' guitar, since you may
have to remove the bridge frequently as you fine tune the electronics,
intonation, etc.
8. Back of
body
string ferrules. Fender is the
only good currently available choice. Some of the recent after market
ones
I've pulled out of guitars don't fit worth a damn. Here again, older
Schecter
and Mighty Mite brass string ferrules were manufactured to a very high
standard and work fine (if you can find a set...). Counter boring the
ferrule
holes so they're flush with the body, '50s style, is the best mode of
installation
but if you've got a pre-finished non Fender body you may have to settle
for having the ferrules non flush mounted.
9. Pickups.
Fralin
Broadcaster Hybrid style sets are
my favorites.
If you want to use a four-way pickup selector switch, try to get
pickups
that have a reverse wound/reverse polarity relationship. Also make sure
that the neck pickup has a separate, isolated ground wire going from
the
metal pickup cover to the control assembly. If you're using a three-way
pickup selector switch, either reverse wound/reverse polarity sets or a
types with the same direction of wind (both either clockwise or
counterclockwise)
and polarity (both either North or South...) will work fine. Deviate
from
this and risk an 'out of phase' sound or hum when you combine the
neck and bridge pickups. If you want a traditional 'squawk' from the
bridge
pickup, make sure that you're using a metal bottom plate under the coil
form, "zinc" (actually zinc coated steel...) on the NoCaster types,
copper clad steel on early Tele
types.
10. Lead
pickup
mounting screws and springs.
You'll need three of each. Slotted screws are more appropriate for '50s
style guitars, philips head screws for '60s guitars. The old cone
springs
sound a bit more lively than the surgical tubing commonly used today
but
they're also more prone to amplifying microphonic feedback.
11. Rhythm
pickup
mounting screws and tubing.
You'll need two of each. Here again, slotted screws are more
appropriate
to '50s guitars, phillips head to '60s style. Original old Teles had
steel
springs to tension the neck pickup but these are no longer available so
you'll have to use the Fender packaged rubber tubing.
12. Control
plate.
Buy a Fender; the after market
ones are either too thick, too thin, have an awkward cut for the switch
or some other goofy feature. Pickguard screws work fine to hold the
control
plate down to the body. Use slotted switch mounting screws for '50s
style
guitars, phillips head screws for '60s style guitars. The Fender plate
fits '50s-present Tele switches EXACTLY. If you buy somebody else's
'magic'
switch, it may not fit.
13. Pickup
selector
switch. If you can't find
an old heavy duty CRL 1452 or a NEW lighter-built CRL 1452, buy a
NEW Fender Oak manufactured three-way or four way
switch. The CRLs use a single coil spring, the Oak versions use an
integral tension disc. Both types work fine but traditionalists will
prefer the 'feel' of the CRLs.
14. Pickup
selector
switch top. Barrel types
are '50s style, 'top hats' '60s style. The Fender packaged tips fit all
Tele switches from the '50s to the present. "Import" after market
switch
tips may not fit.
15. Knobs.
Fender
dome knobs with rounded tops
are 'early 50s cool, Fender 'flat top' knobs are more appropriate for
late
'50s-60s guitar. Don't buy any Tele knob without a set screw; they'll
wobble
and eventually fall off. If your "Tele" copy now has splined shaft pots
with 'push on' knobs, replace 'em.
16. Tone and volume
pots. Buy 250K CTS pots from
Fender with standard 1/4" solid shafts; this is the traditional value
for
Teles. The tone and volume pots are the same; they're both
audio/"logarithmic"
taper. Use full size gnarly toothed lockwashers under the pots, not the
dinky ones Fender and other suppliers ship now with these pots. It's
also
a good idea to use 'beauty washers' under the fastening nuts so you
don't chew up the chrome surface of the control plate. Don't
waste
your time with the cheap imported pots sold by most 'generic' guitar
parts
suppliers; the 'feel' just isn't there and, depending on the brand,
they
may not fit securely. Avoid like the plague any 'mini sized' imported
pots
with splined shafts!
17. Tone capacitor.
The original early '50s tone
caps, manufactured with wax impregnated paper dielectric and aluminum
foil plates, present an overall smooth sound with somewhat recessed
midrange and steeply rolled-off highs. My favorite tone cap for Teles
is the Angela
copper foil paper in oil .047; you get a lovely, smooth natural sound
but also extended bandwidth. The Jensen aluminum foil paper in
oil capacitors are another world class choice but in a smaller package
at a lower price. Another premium choice is the Angela
Tin Foil capacitor made by SCR of France; this one is more
compact
and
an easier fit than the Angela/Jensen paper in oil capacitors. ANY
.047-.05 capacitor
will work, although I generally
avoid
the dinky, low quality types found in most new guitars these days. The
sonic difference is only really obvious if you use the tone control
much.
Don't get carried away here; the capacitor isn't an amplifier or
magical
sonic wonderfulness creator. It can only roll off the highs somewhat as
you advance the "tone" control clockwise. Does the voltage rating
matter? Generally speaking, caps with higher voltage ratings have more
plate surface area and give a smoother sound compared to very low rated
caps (e.g. 25VDC) but anything with a rating of 100V or higher is
'overkill' in a guitar tone control circuit. Don't believe me? Try
measuring the highest voltage in a guitar with really hot pickups. I
bet you'll be surprised at how really low it is. Most manufacturers and
resellers stock 600VDC caps because they're almost the same price as
lower voltage rated versions and they're also usable for tube amp
building and repair where the higher rating is necessary.
18. Wire.
Buy at least ten
feet. If you have a hard time
wiring the guitar or decide to experiment with different configurations
you'll be glad you have enough to start over without funky splices.
Cloth insulated 22 gauge stranded copper 'push back' wire is the most
popular choice. We also now offer slightly thicker 20g wire, available
in black and white only. Some builders feel that the 20g wire looks
more like the stuff found in really rustic/primitive early '50s gear.
Four
feet
of white, four feet of black and two feet of yellow should be more than
enough for most Tele wiring jobs.
19. Input
jack. Buy
only Switchcraft mono 1/4".
The Mil. Spec. SILVER PLATED version we sell is the best traditional
style
jack available. The cheap input jacks that come stock on most imported
Teles have lousy contact integrity. The same caveat applies to the
cheap
import jacks sold by Radio Shack and other 'mass market' electronics
parts retailers;
these
parts are just not designed and constructed for hard, professional use.
20. Input
jack cup
with keeper. Chrome Fender
type is the most traditional. Stewart Macdonald sells a really nifty
installation
tool for these old style jack keepers. A metal Les Paul flat
input
jack plate doesn't look 'vintage' but it's an alternative that works
fine,
maybe better than the original because it accepts right angle plugs.
21. Neck
plate.
Four bolt type. Chrome plated
steel. The Fender plates will fit Fender guitars, the 'after market'
versions
are surprisingly variable in size and quality. Use slotted head screws
for early Teles, phillips head for '60s style.
22. Strap
buttons.
Fender traditional style
nickel
plated. These come with philips head screws so you may want to buy
extra
slotted head screws if you're building an early Tele, Broadcaster or
NoCaster
clone.
