LCR British Dual Electrolytic Capacitors For Tube Gear

These reliable, blue jacketed electrolytics are a fine choice for restoring modern or vintage Marshall and Vox guitar amps, as well as other tube gear. Most types listed below are 1&5/16" diameter round cans with color coded solder lugs on the bottom end. Please note that the 8uF+8uF/450V caps are 1" diameter by 1.75" long. Thick blue plastic insulation covers all of the body of most of these capacitors, all but the very top of the others.

1. 50uF+50uF/500VDC, these typically measure between 1&5/16"-1&3/8" diameter, 3" tall. THE EXACT PART USED IN MANY 'RECENT' AND MANY VINTAGE MARSHALL GUITAR AMPLIFIERS. Color coded solder lugs on bottom, clamp mount, blue jacket insulation covers the entire body. SOLD OUT.
2. 32uF+32uF/450V, these typically measure between 1&5/16"-1&3/8" diameter, 3" tall. EACH $25.
3. 8uF+8uF/450V, 1" diameter, 1.75" long, also used on some VOX amps. EACH $18.

1. Black Gate Deluxe mounting clamps for 1" LCR and other upright electrolytics, attractive black finished steel, .75" tall, 1.5" mounting centers, mount by two screws to chassis, made in Japan. Clamping machine screw and nut included.  EACH $3.

2. Mounting clamp for 1&5/16"-1&3/8" diameter LCR, J.J. and similar capacitors, cadmium plated steel, made in USA. These are the clamps that fit popular 50uF+50uF/500VDC found in Marshalls, etc. Mount to chassis with two machine screws, two feet. Clamping machine screw and nut included. Handy Hint! Some folks who don't like the industrial look of these clamps on their hi-fi amps mount 'em underneath the chassis. That works just fine if you've got the real estate 'under the hood'. EACH $2.50.

3. Mounting clamp for 1&5/16"-1&5/8" diameter LCR, J.J. and similar capacitors, NICKEL plated steel, made in USA, '70s NEW OLD STOCK, probably Mallory or Sprague. Except for the finish, these clamps are exactly like the brand new ones offered above. Nickel has a nice warm vintage look. Yes, they'll fit your Marshall EXACTLY. These clamps are also wildly popular with folks replacing Twistlocks with modern J.J. etc. caps in old Ampegs, Dynacos, Harmon-Kardon, etc.  Clamping machine screw and nut included.  EACH $1.

4. Black Gate Deluxe Mounting clamp for 1&5/16"-1&5/8" diameter Black Gate, Elna Cerafine, LCR, J.J., F&T, etc., attractive black finished steel, two feet, slotted mounting tabs. Manufacturers use these on high-end tube hi-fi amps. Clamping machine screw and nut included.  EACH $3.

The dual  J.J. clamp mount filter capacitors are the same diameter as the soon to be extinct LCR 1&3/8" capacitors, positive and negative solder lug terminals on the bottom are stamped"+" and "-" respectively. The J.J. quad cap measures approx. 1.5625" diameter, the four positive and one negative solder lug terminal are all stamped on the bottom; "Y" is 40uF, "X" is 20uF, "U" is 20uF, "O" is 20uF and "-" (negative sign...) is the negative terminal. Tolerance claimed by the manufacturer to be "-10% +30%". On the dual caps, black plastic insulation jacket covers all but the very top of the aluminum can. The quad cap has black plastic insulation on the body and a dark brown phenolic cap on the top. The Slovakian manufactured J.J. caps are now popular as replacements for LCR and other hard to find British caps. Some repair folks also use these to replace old Twistlocks* in applications where the use of a clamp is acceptable. While the J.J. caps are too new to offer much of a long term reliability 'track record', feedback from our repair customers has been very favorable so far. Many 'boutique' guitar amp builders (e.g. Budda...) are now using these J.J. electrolytics in production. For chassis mounting of the dual caps, use our 1&5/16"-1&3/8" diameter clamp described above. For chassis mounting of the quad caps, use our approx. 1.5625" clamps described above.

3. 40uF+20uF+20uF+20uF/500VDC*, DEVELOPED BY ANGELA INSTRUMENTS! NOW SOLD BY RETAILERS WORLDWIDE. 1.5" diameter, 2" tall, clamp mount type like LCR, Black Gate, Elna, etc. (use mounting clamp #7 or #8, both described above). I've been testing these in a my EL34/KT88 mono blocks (476 VDC on the plates...) for a couple of years now and they've worked like a champ.  EACH $12.
*Replacing the old "525VDC" or higher rated electrolytics found in some vintage hi-fi gear with a 500VDC rated capacitor could be risky. My advice is, measure the highest voltage found in that component and plan accordingly. You might want to consider some form of AC input voltage control like a Variac or voltage regulated power supply, since lots of vintage gear was designed when household voltages were lower (115V-117V) than the 120V standard of today; this may drop the voltage to a point where using a 500VDC rated filter capacitor would be an option.
